For participants
General information about the study, the procedure of examinations, important aftercare details, and opportunities for study participation.
What is the study about?
The PregWin study focuses on pregnancy, a time of significant change and challenges for both mother and child. We explore how various factors, including lifestyle and environment, can impact health. Did you know that conditions during pregnancy, such as gestational diabetes or high blood pressure, can increase future health risks for you and your baby? Our study aims to identify these risks early and develop strategies to mitigate them. By participating, where we collect various samples and health information, you help us gain vital insights that will benefit future generations of mothers and children.
What is the procedure of the study?
In the PregWin Study, a total of 5 appointments are planned. Three of these appointments will take place during your pregnancy. For the examinations, we ask you to come fasting (without having breakfast) to the outpatient clinic of the University Hospital for Gynecology and Obstetrics.
Below the appointments at a glance:
During Pregnancy:
First Appointment: Between the 10th and 14th week of pregnancy, coinciding with the first-trimester screening to check the normal development of the baby and test for the risk of pre-eclampsia.
Second Appointment: Glucose tolerance test in the 24th to 28th week.
Third Appointment: Control examination in the 37th week of pregnancy.
At Birth:
Collection of samples from the placenta and umbilical cord blood.
After Pregnancy:
Another appointment will take place approx. 12 weeks after birth.
Long-term participation
We would be pleased if you could be available for further examinations one and two years after birth. This long-term perspective is crucial to understand the effects of pregnancy experiences on the health of mother and child.
Why is follow-up important?
The follow-up examinations in our PregWin study help us to understand the long-term effects of various pregnancy experiences. They provide us with valuable insights into the health development of mother and child. This enables us to better understand how certain experiences during pregnancy can influence health later in life. These insights are particularly meaningful when we monitor the health of mother and child over an extended period. By participating in these examinations, you are helping us to develop more effective prevention and care strategies that benefit all families.
